This work reimagines Medusa not as monster, but as recipient of divine protection. Depicted as a young girl crowned with serpents, she embodies an alternative reading of the myth, one where Athena's transformation was not punishment, but a kind of strange blessing. After being violated in the goddess's temple, Medusa was granted living armor: a gaze that would petrify any who approached with predatory intent. The snakes become guardians, ensuring she could never again be made vulnerable. This interpretation aligns with ancient Greek practice itself. The Gorgoneion, Medusa's face, appeared on shields, temple pediments, and protective amulets throughout the classical world, warding against evil and harm. She was apotropaic: a guardian figure whose power protected the innocent. It is painted on a round canvas to evoke that idea of the shield. By portraying Medusa's beauty rather than her monstrosity, this painting reclaims her as symbol of transformation from victim to sovereign protect
