Pedigree 3 - Where Is My Mind? Is a continuation of a series that explores the concept of self-worth. This series was prompted by an Emily Dickinson poem, “The Pedigree of Honey” which states that the bee does not concern itself with the pedigree of honey, and a common clover is aristocracy. I chose to paint a diptych to express the idea that we only need to open our minds to see past complex social constructs that force us to define self worth. The textured background was created using cold wax and stencil. I then go over the pattern with oil sticks and scrape with a palette knife to reveal texture and color.
