This is a portrait of an artist who I met at my first art residency, in France. The residency provided an opportunity to be sequestered from the world and focus on creating work---while at the same time being surrounded by like-minded individuals who were also committed to pursuing their own creative visions. The experience was at once intensely personal and also communal. I wanted to capture this moment of quiet inspiration and reflection.
