The animalistic qualities of humanity are exemplified through the violent act of repeatedly stabbing through the canvas. As the needle goes through the material, the woman becomes one with the female predator. The aggressive mark-making and the puncturing of the embroidery go hand in hand with the anger that comes with being embroiled in the patriarchy. The embroidery creates an intentional act of violence that emulates the shocking and transformative trauma that women experience in society. The embroidery sewn onto the canvas is traditionally a female-dominated craft, cutting through a traditionally male-dominated art field. By creating this work, I am exploring the relationship between prey and predator in a patriarchal society by placing female predators atop paintings of women. The work expresses a powerful sense of anger and outrage that is felt by women, especially in these times.
