'Becoming Gold' began with an act of surrender. raw pigment - pure, unbound, sourced from Nepal was thrown onto the unprimed linen, entirely out of my control. From that moment of chaos, something had to be decided: what would the form below become in response to what had fallen on it? The cascade of yellow pigment from above is light behaving like matter - heavy, directional, transforming everything it touches. The hyperrealist organic form below is what survives the encounter. It has been struck by something golden and is still in the process of becoming it. This is a painting about perception in the moment of transformation - the split second when something is no longer what it was and not yet what it will be. The law linen hold both realities simultaneously: the uncontrolled energy of thrown pigment and the obsessive precision of rendered form. Between them, light finds its way through.
