This painting is based on direct observation of a nearby park, not only as an image of nature, but as a record of a connection to it, shaped by an urban experience. I worked on both sides of the canvas, letting marks from the back pass through the surface, then fixing them. The image builds between front and reverse. I remain within the language of landscape, space, form, color, but reduce it as much as possible. Fewer marks, a limited range, held together in perception. What remains is a translation to paint of an urban impulse based on human connection to nature.
