Shaped by my experiences in Seoul, Los Angeles, and New York, I view urban environments as dynamic ecosystems, each shaped by the interplay of memory, history, and transformation. Urban traces, such as the ubiquitous torn posters plastered over city walls, are my visual references. I view them as time capsules representing the passage of time and of small fragments coming together to create something larger. Just like the remnants of these posters, my paintings sit in-between construction and erosion. I combine acrylic paint, airbrush marks, oil pastel, charcoal, and ink to create layered narratives mirroring the rhythm of contemporary life. The hazy textures of airbrushed layers meet the precision of pastel and charcoal marks, creating contrasts that evoke the push and pull of control versus unpredictability, structure versus chaos. This interplay mirrors the energy of urban life, where moments of clarity coexist with constant flux.
