This seascape explores the tension between the solidity of coastal rock formations and the transient force of the ocean. A restrained palette of cool blues and greys is balanced by warmer earth tones in the foreground, establishing a cohesive tonal harmony while maintaining a naturalistic atmosphere. Varied, gestural brushwork conveys the energy of the breaking waves, with thicker applications of paint in the foam enhancing texture and immediacy. In contrast, the rocks are defined through more controlled, structural strokes, providing compositional stability. A high horizon line compresses the spatial depth, directing attention toward the movement of the surf and creating a sense of proximity. The work emphasises the capture of light, motion, and atmosphere through expressive handling rather than fine detail, embracing the Cornish Coastline.
