Set against the ravaged outskirts of Kharkiv after warfare, the painting features collapsed buildings, broken utility poles and discarded wrecked vehicles, depicting a city reduced to rubble by conflict. Displaced civilians trudge through piles of debris; the figures in the foreground clutch their few remaining belongings, their weary faces etched with the pain of losing their homes. With realistic figure modeling and somber, heavy color palette, I document the plight of ordinary people forced into exile amid war, condemning how artillery destroys urban civilization and innocent civilian lives. This work conveys deep compassion for Kharkiv’s stricken people and holds a sincere wish for an end to warfare, so all refugees may return to peaceful homeland.
