My landscapes are ambivalent. This painting shows a tunnel, a civil engineering construction, that today has lost its function, becoming a place without clear purpose, expectant. The absence of use, of activity, and the sense of freedom, of expectancy, is also a promise, a space of the possible. Hope, expectations are a driving force behind any progression, a counterbalance to the inevitability of suffering.
