Inscription (from the diptych 'Responsibility') in a part of the painting series ’Encounter with the Face’ devoted to the question of the face understood not merely as an image, but as a site where a relationship emerges between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer. The whole series draws on Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy of the face. For Levinas, the face is not simply a set of physical features or an object of perception, but an ethical event that calls us into responsibility for the Other. From this perspective, the act of bringing another person into visibility carries a particular responsibility for the artist. The title of the diptych ('Responsibility') points out also to the responsibility that inevitably emerges in every encounter between two people
