During a trip to China many years ago, I came across this ancient site, where a very candid scene was taking place in the background. Amid the crowd of visitors, two young children were posing together on this ancient statue for their parents, who were taking a picture of them. The big sister had spontaneously put her arm around her little brother's shoulder, and I couldn't help feeling touched by the very genuine, loving innocence of the scene. I was there by chance, and the timing was perfect. I always wanted to make a painting of this moment.
