This canvas arrived already wounded: two cuts in the fabric, before a single colour was applied. They were not concealed — they were multiplied. Iron oxide, quartz sand, black acrylic: the matter of pain in its rawest form. Pain of any kind — physical, emotional, existential — creates deep wounds. It makes us float in a grey zone of the soul, suspended between what we were and what we might become. But pain, when truly moved through rather than avoided, carries within it the seed of transformation. The dance of greens and gold that erupted across this surface did not erase what came before.
