In the artwork What the Depths Hide: Altered Landscapes V, I have tried to bring to light the hidden complexities of the ocean, exposing a reality that is often left unseen. Through fluid pigment washes and brushstrokes, the piece captures suspended debris, drifting foreign bodies, and harmful pollutants within an aquatic medium that paradoxically clings to the majestic essence of the sea. Inspired by climate change and the severe degradation of our planet’s water sources, the artist subverts traditional landscape representation to create a tension in the viewer's gaze, transforming the canvas into a powerful catalyst for environmental reflection. Despite the elusive, unpredictable nature of the wet-on-wet watercolor technique, the artificial contaminants are positioned with deliberate certainty. These elements blend seamlessly with the shifting tones of a sea that evokes either the soft light of a sunset .
