The term ‘Bodhisattva warrior’ refers to a person or concept who, whilst possessing a deep sense of compassion, actively combats social injustice and evil. However, this work is an expression of the artist’s sensibilities and perspective; whilst it depicts reality, it is not intended to promote any specific religion. I created this work with a woman I deeply respect in mind. When a colleague posted my real name on an online forum under the company’s thread, stating that I ‘deserved to die a thousand deaths’, she saw this whilst on the train home. Although it was past 11 pm, she returned to the office and sent an email to the executives on my behalf. A Bodhisattva warrior does not possess the power to punish evil or set the world right. They simply stand in this world without abandoning their ethics. If stars did not exist in the night sky, people would surely be terrified by the vast darkness. Yet the stars have always been kind to people. A Bodhisattva warrior is such an existence.
