My artwork explores the endless pursuit of an ideal, specifically the beauty ideal that is often imposed on women. I chose the swan as a central symbol of femininity and beauty. Around it, I depict different stages of a woman’s life ranging from infancy to old age. The progression shows that even the elder women in the center never actually reach the swan, symbolizing that this ideal remains unattainable throughout life. The work critiques the unrealistic and often irrational nature of striving for a beauty standard that cannot truly be achieved. I included a wide variety of skin tones and body shapes to highlight the diversity of womanhood. Instead of appreciating these differences, women are encouraged to pursue an ideal that is ultimately impossible to attain and, in a sense, does not truly exist.
