"The Invitation" is a triptych that explores the psychological subtext of Aesop’s classic fable, The Fox and the Stork. By utilizing a three-panel format, I intended to elevate a simple moral lesson into a formal study of perspective and reciprocity. The work is executed using a pointillist technique. Thousands of unblended dabs of acrylic create a shimmering atmospheric vibration, where color is mixed in the eye of the viewer. This technical choice mirrors the narrative: just as the story depends on the 'vessel' used to serve the meal, the painting depends on the 'vessel' of the viewer’s perception to find its form. By isolating the characters into individual portraits flanking a central 'still life of conflict,' the gaze of the animals directs the viewer’s eye in a continuous loop. This structure emphasizes the 'tit-for-tat' tension of the fable, transforming a simple invitation into a rhythmic, visual meditation on the tools of hospitality and the weight of our choices.
