Collecting all sorts of materials over the years as a means in the creative process has led me to incorporate them into the artwork as matter. Abandoned wasp nests, packaging, papers, plastics, foams, fabrics, and even my sketches and experiments have been saved and included. The awareness about this context and as a gesture of detachment and respect for the material I turned to hybridize Momigami’ traditional japanese technique in my artwork. A delicate piece of paper, acquires a metallic appearance and resemble fabric and leather. Here, the technique turned to be a symbolic approach as therapeutic, while transforms rigid papers in flexible, foldable and resistant ones. Transmutación Crepuscular – Lado A and Lado B , are two sides of the same work, and part of Transmutare Series. This series celebrates the duality of two points of view through the physical and symbolic transformation of paper.
