What interested me most in this painting was the possibility that absence itself could become a structural element inside the painting. The unusual scale, the emptiness of the table, and the relationship between the chair, the objects, and the surrounding space became more important to me than the still life itself. I wanted very few elements to create a stronger visual and spatial impact. The painting developed after an intense period of looking at Vuillard and Bonnard in Paris. Not consciously through influence or quotation, but through a growing sensitivity to how color, simplification, and expressive brushwork can carry atmosphere. Here absence and freedom of process begin to unite within the grid. Although these visual ideas were important to me, my intention was simply to create a strong emotional atmosphere through ordinary space and painting itself.
