This oil painting blends Baroque-inspired chiaroscuro with the emotional force that persists after this concert performance. Drawing from the techniques of Rembrandt and Caravaggio, Pirona uses tenebrism and layered glazes to heighten the intensity of expression, focusing on the face and hands to convey vulnerability and resistance. On the shelf, rest a viola and a few books. On the floor, lie tricolored spheres on behalf of a dismembered flag. From the ground rises a hymn, marked by the blood of the new braves, now transformed into a nostalgic ode; one that certain musicians, from a certain place, know inseparably alongside Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. Inspired by a symphony born of survival and silence, the piece becomes both a personal and collective portrait of dignity amidst oppression.
