One of the qualities of art that I consider most valuable is its ability to express a complex philosophical thought within a single painting. In my work, I explore how suffering is not only endured, but also consumed…how, in our world, many live in agony while others quietly profit from their tears (as seen most clearly in times of war). To express this imbalance, where a small number remain immensely privileged while the majority suffer, I painted two figures bathing in the tears of many eyes. Though the scene appears calm, it is built upon cruelty. These figures do not merely witness pain; they draw comfort from it. The surrounding sculptures and framing architecture are broken, with limbs missing, to suggest that their power is sustained by those who have been shattered. I wanted to show how morally unstable this world is, and how easily brutality can be disguised as beauty and purity. This is not a regular bath. It is a bath of tears.
