After my journey to the Amazon last year, I´ve been creating paintings that seek to convey how profoundly I was moved by the wonder of everything I encountered. I was especially captivated by an image of a Yanomami boy with a manakin gently perched on his hand and the boy´s pensive, introspective gaze. I titled the painting “Stillness — The Boy and Urihi.” In the Yanomami language, urihi refers to the living forest in its entirety—the land, rivers, animals, plants, and the spiritual forces that inhabit them.
