While painting this portrait, I felt a quiet sense of calm. I was drawn to the subtle expression that appears when someone is simply resting in their own thoughts. The slightly turned gaze felt natural to me, as if the subject’s mind is somewhere just beyond the moment. I worked slowly with watercolor, building the image through soft and transparent layers. As I added each wash, I enjoyed watching how the light and skin tones gradually emerged on the paper. I also wanted the background to feel warm and quiet, almost like an old piece of paper holding a memory. The soft texture behind the figure creates a sense of stillness, allowing the portrait to exist in a calm and timeless space. Through this painting, I hoped to hold that quiet moment.
