Retrospection reflects on memory as an open, interior space where personal and shared stories remain to provide sources for reflection, creativity, and wisdom. The painting depicts a bird's eye view of an open drawer - a symbol for individual and collective memories and histories. In the drawer rests an antique film camera with an open casket, a metaphor for the unfinished stories of our lives and the creative processes by which they unfurl. The dried roses spilling out of the casket represent embedded latencies that hold the potential for rejuvenation as time unfolds.
