Inspired by in-depth research and creation centered on the ancient classic Shan Hai Jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas) over the past two years, this work takes Kunlun Mountain as its prototype. The mountain forms draw on the silhouette of pyramids, creating a solemn, majestic and sacred ambiance. Blending Chinese and Western light and shadow techniques, it reinterprets the ancient Chinese aesthetics with contemporary artistic expressions. Warm-toned light conveys the Eastern cosmic philosophy and primeval artistic conception. Created on silk with delicate fine brush lines and natural mineral pigments, the painting incorporates imagery such as fossilized roc wings and surging waves. The mountain landscape at the bottom follows the compositional style of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains. Rooted in the theme of the primeval Great Wilderness, the work is thus named Shan Hai Jing Series – Traces of the Roc in the Great Wilderness.
