“Azul Olive II” forms part of Kirsty Wain’s ongoing exploration of the ancient olive groves of southern and eastern Spain. Since relocating to Spain in 2014 and living between Andalucía and the Costa Blanca, Wain has developed an expressive visual language rooted in the Mediterranean landscape, its light and atmosphere. Moving beyond direct representation, the painting presents the olive tree as both monumental and animate. Flowing forms of indigo, cobalt, teal and violet create a rhythmic structure suggestive of movement, endurance and organic vitality. Set against luminous pink and mauve tones inspired by Mediterranean twilight, the work balances heightened colour with lyrical stylisation. Through fluid brushwork and layered acrylic application, Wain creates an immersive, dreamlike interpretation of place that draws on both lived experience and emotional response to the landscape.
