This small mixed-media work was inspired by the fire that destroyed the Moria refugee camp in Greece. Fluid ink marks suggest the forms of trees, while layers of collage, watercolour, acrylic paint and pastel create a fragmented and shifting landscape. Warm yellows, oranges and reds evoke both fire and light, hinting at destruction, resilience and transformation. Rather than depicting a specific event, the painting explores memory, displacement and traces of human presence. The interplay of transparent and opaque layers creates an atmosphere of ambiguity, inviting viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations to the work. Through abstraction, the piece seeks to convey both the fragility and endurance of those affected by conflict and migration.
