This painting is an interesting discussion of the concept of ‘home’. In this painting, I am showing a Chinese fishing village as a tourist and from a stranger's point of view, while many of the representative symbols of the fishing village that appear in the painting, such as walls, boats, and buildings, are also familiar elements of hometown for those coming from the coastal areas of China. For me, this painting is an observation and understanding of the landscape of a foreign land. However, when the work was exhibited, I received a number of viewers from the coastal areas of China, including the fishing village in the painting, who greatly resonated with the work and saw the warmth of home in it. As a stranger in a foreign land, my painting convey a sense of home. Meanwhile, have I ever felt ‘at home’ when I was in a foreign land? Where is home, or can any place we have temporarily lived become ‘home’?
