Arcadia is a time and place forgotten to us, a lost idyll. Although I have depicted a classical Greek interpretation of Arcadia, this painting represents all landscapes which no longer resemble their past. The wing-footed Hermes was said be Arcadian, so it seemed fitting to paint him looking out over his homeland. The work hints that these ancient lands may look different now, but the majesty, beauty and wisdom of the land itself is never lost.
