When read on the first level, “Mausoleum Of A King” can be interpreted as a simple fantasy image, where a majestic shrine dedicated to a legendary King figure is being visited by a loved one in a grandiose mountain landscape. But beyond the fantastical vision, it could stand as a symbolic reflection on the concept of leadership. As nations have moved away from the idea of being run by kings (or queens) who, throughout centuries, could turn out to be loved monarchs or ruthless tyrants, the world has embraced the concept of leaders who are chosen by the people, not to rule by fear, but to serve their nation at the best of their ability, and not to demand respect or love, but to inspire and earn it through their dedication and sacrifice. To this day, this concept is still a work in progress.
