The OnVelvet series uses velvet exclusively as a base. So instead of a regular canvas, a velvet fabric panel is streched onto a frame. Velvet creates a very strong contrast between the reflecting, applicated colors and the smooth background. A whole spectrum of different materials and thick colors is spread out on the panel. Icelandic moss, plants, earth, embroidered lines made of yarn, and, as usual, a thick, opulent application of color run are the theme of the picture. So the form and the material constitute the main role. The content builds on floral structures mirroring the materials used. In this case the act of painting becomes a ritual, almost a spiritual encounter.
