I painted "Tide of Time" in January 2025, while staying in a small seaside town on the south coast of England to work on my art. Between paintings, I spent many solitary hours watching the tide ascend and descend beneath the stormy skies, reflecting on times passed while wondering where to go and what to do next. In my isolation, my emotions shifted to the most visceral yet abstract feeling. On the one hand I felt directionless, adrift and detached as though I was walking in a dream. I ruminated on forgotten ideas and failures, much like the dead fish that wash up after a storm. On the other hand, I felt I was on the edge of something greater, I anticipated a break through the clouds. I became very aware of time passing: I wished I could control it or stop it, have my minutes be worth hours. In the surreal imagery of "Tide of Time", I create an imaginary seascape with heavy symbolic elements that I hope speaks to wider human experiences of time and change through my own.
