PATRICIA
DI BASSO
One day, less than three years ago, you made your first brushstrokes. Was the decision driven by a need to express yourself, as a way to escape the world, because someone recommended it, because you had always wanted to, or perhaps for all those reasons at once?
Art has always been part of my life. The destinations for my vacations were guided by the exhibitions I wanted to visit. I studied art history, even though it wasn’t my professional field. One day, out of curiosity, I attended an immersive experience whose purpose was to paint freely for a morning to relieve stress. I enjoyed it so much that I bought materials and started painting at home. Since then, I never stopped.
And what’s the secret to already exhibiting just a few months later?
I think the secret is not being afraid of judgment or hearing “no.” Even as a beginner, I showed my work to galleries, and the invitations started coming in. Of course, some didn’t even respond.
Monaco, Madrid, Portugal… Any other places?
Several! France, Italy, Austria, Germany, the United States, and, of course, Brazil.
These exhibitions have also been accompanied by more than one recognition.
Recognition is important. The awards and invitations confirm that I’m on the right path.
Your abstraction is sophisticated, elegant, and meticulous, yet at the same time expressive, communicative, and touching through texture. Is there anything else you aim to convey that might escape notice?
I think you’ve captured the soul of my art!
Tell me about Brazil. I dream of traveling and retreating for three months to paint. What place would you recommend to find inspiration?
Inspiration is very personal and comes from a combination of our experiences and references. However, paradisiacal places with lush nature, such as Paraty or Florianópolis, would undoubtedly be an excellent refuge for painting.
What do the artists from your homeland have that we in Europe couldn’t compare with all the gold in the world?
Every culture has its unique and special qualities. Brazilians stand out for their warmth, hospitality, and authenticity.
Patricia, have you set any goals for 2025, or will you welcome whatever comes?
In 2025, I plan to establish myself in the European art scene and study new techniques, but I’m always open to life’s surprises.
Name a city where you’d dream of seeing an endless line of people waiting to attend the opening of your exhibition.
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, a city I adore.
Thank you very much for participating in the Target Prize, and congratulations on your career.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate!
