Rakui Ikkai is a small wine and dashi bar that caught my eye while strolling in the streets of Kyoto. With this artwork I wanted to express the loneliness of the city, darkness, empty street, shot curtains, taking the majority of the surface of the canvas. While, at the same time, and zooming in, showing how the city’s heart is vibrant, bright and welcoming: in its interior spaces. The two plants seem to look through the glass window, as secondary characters waiting for someone to invite them in. I like the dialogue between them and the restaurant costumers, between the exterior and the interior. The viewer can rest from the unsettling night emptiness looking at the little square of warm colours, or get out of the center of the canvas and discover the details in the cooler outside. I painted a first layer of electric blue reserving the space for the neon sign (pink pigment mixed with medium or with white). That blue breathes here and there, unifies or is used to delimit shapes.
