This painting was created after deep emotional struggles and a strong relationship falling apart. Love is an energy that connects, but it needs to be supported by clear, heartfelt and honest comunication. The purpose of Triton, son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, both sea Gods, is to be the messenger between the sea, a female aspect, and the land, a male aspect. When the most important element in a relationship, communication, begins to fail, then structure, connection and attraction begin to crumble into pieces. She is isolated under the ice, shivering and freezing, but connected with him through pain in the form of an underwater icicle, also called the finger of death. Reversed, growing out of the ice, it pierces his heart, liver, knee and closes in on his face. He is unable to express himself to her or be heard by her, and suffers in an unenviable contorted body position. Figures are in an Iceland inspired ice cave and landscape. – Nik Anikis
