The Painter of Nature
Imposing like a windmill on a hill, proud like a centuries-old holm oak in the meadow, determined like a river carving its way through dry land… This is the painting of Fermín García Sevilla (Tomelloso, 1961), an inevitable artist who was born when La Mancha resonated with free spirits, minds swept up in the frenzy of the hallway, ready to break free, defying the judgment of others.
How could he not become a “doctor of brushes and palette” when he spent his childhood inspired by the song of birds, the green of the fig tree, and the boldness of the Guadiana River? Fermín revealed himself as an exceptional draftsman from a very young age. This was known by the great master Antonio López Torres, who, recognizing his skill, introduced him to the world of painting by talking about light, his obsession with capturing it from life, and the joy felt when translating a landscape onto a canvas.
Many years later, Fermín García Sevilla, countryman and nephew of Antonio López, is one of the most recognized landscape painters in Spain. His works are part of numerous public and private collections, and his résumé shines with many awards. However, the greatest treasure for him is the thousands of students and followers he has accumulated throughout his career. This is the reward for a life dedicated to creation and teaching, from his first experiences as a teacher in his School Workshop to his tours across the country, where he has passed on his passion for plein air painting to young artists.
Fermín García Sevilla, raised in the capital under the influence of Sokoa, a prominent figure in galleries such as Herraiz in Madrid, Xerión in A Coruña, Alemi in León, and Arte Casa in Ciudad Real, will be one of the accredited judges to select the winners among the finalists.
At Tartget Prize, we are thrilled to have this painter with a vibrant and luminous palette, with energetic and expressive brushwork, who immerses us in the vastness of his Quixotic landscapes, the man close to the Guadiana River, the artist who elevates the beauty of his land.
